A journey not a destination

The Challenge

Running a tourism venue presents several challenges, including: the need for efficient data collection, coping with weather extremities, coordinating with the community and our other partners and balancing the demands of a business with the pursuit of shared sustainability goals.

The Approach

The lodge is committed to preserving traditional skills, celebrating Samburu culture and empowering the local community. An example of this is the inhouse blacksmith who honed his craft under the guidance of his father since the age of 14.With a dedicated space honoring Community, Culture , Conservation, and Commerce(the 4C’s), the lodge has shown its dedicated commitment to sustainability.

The Result

Sasaab has been rated as GER® ,one of the highest accolade in sustainability standards by The Long Run and recognized by the GSTC. The property has become more conscious of its ecological footprint and runs on solar over 90% of the time. A model for business community partnership, their sustainability mindset extends beyond wildlife into their entire operations. And they are just getting started.

Data Matters: Why tracking progress is essential

Tracking operational parameters helps to run a business with a rigorous commercial lens. The lodge’s sustainability actions influence not only the customer experience for the better, but also the bottom line.
